What has primacy-who you are or what you do?
It’s absolutely, absolutely fundamental that we don’t just do the work in front of us. We must question the tasks and projects we have, regarding our effectiveness and future gains and prune away unproductive, bureaucratic, non-value-adding items regularly. Nothing should be done just for its own sake. We can measure progress and efficiency but that must always be secondary to the immeasurable: connection, communication, relationship. No one will remember your work in three years (maybe even in one year in our volatile world) but they will remember your character. That said, a doer is always more welcome than a talker. And more still: even a talker is better than a tiny square on the screen, muted and contributing nothing.
